Wait – it’s Valentine’s Day?

I sent both my kids to school with no valentines this morning. I showed up frizzy haired to a room full of decorated shoeboxes posing as mailboxes and walked out thinking, “Was I supposed to do something for that today?”

Of course I immediately went into you’re-such-a-loser mode and drove my unshowered self over to ShopRite because it’s close and this can’t take all day, can it? Obviously they didn’t have any kid friendly prepackaged valentine sets – you know the ones – and yes, I should have gone to Target, but here we are.

Get creative, lady.

I bought a bag of balloons for $1, index cards, and envelopes. I have a pen in my car. I can do this.

I’m not writing their classmates names (she says, as if she knows them) or any special messages. These kids are three and four years old. The only reason I’m even doing this at all is because I don’t want my kids to feel left out.

So here they are. Not great, maybe, but good enough. That’s it. Gotta go. As you can tell, I’m in a bit of a rush. The school day goes fast and I have other stuff to do today.

XO moms. Happy Valentine’s Day to the women keeping it together. Thanks for reading.

  1. Your son enjoyed giving out the cards with the surprise balloons. It’s cool u didn’t subsidize the greeting card industry. Thx for your post. Busy parenting and living is more fun and creative than unattainable perfection-striving. Life is frizzy.
