Expectations

tank topDon’t allow yourself to be tricked by the lace tank top.

When I was laying out my mat and shaking hands with Janel, a particularly bubbly personality, I assumed the position for a relatively gentle class.

Even as we began, starting on our backs and working through wide leg circles, I was expecting a sort of blow-through-it class.

In my entire yoga life, I’ve rarely, if ever, met a teacher I was SO WRONG about. This lady crushed me.

Right now, (hours later) as I type, my forearms beg me to stop and my eyes hint at a complete shut down. My body is so stupefied by the demands placed on it during this class that it’s taken me most of the day to get these words on the page.

All of which is to say that sometimes, the lessons are simple. Don’t sit so hard on expectations. The world and the people in it are what they are, not what you think they are. The lace tank top says nothing.

As a side note: Maybe you are a person who thinks lace tank tops intimate, “I’m going to seriously kick your ass.” And if you are, in this case, you were right.
